Company Timeline:

Below, we will provide you with a brief history of our company, where RMI stands today, and our vision for the future.

1980s

1983

RMI Corporation was formed by Paul R. Chapdelaine to deliver complete management accounting solutions for mid-marketing companies throughout the United States.

1984

Operations expanded into the computer rental business. RMI purchased three computers for a class and decided to run an ad with an offer to rent them upon completion of the class when they were no longer needed. Since no one was renting computers for the day, week, or month at the time, our ad was received with tremendous success and RMI soon had an inventory in excess of 200 computers. Needing a way to track our machines out on rent, we set out to build a system to manage our inventory and rental order processing. We developed the first version of Rental ADVANTAGE, based upon Real-World Accounting Software, to automate our business.

1990s

1990

Another local computer rental shop came to us looking to purchase a copy of our software. We decided to license a copy of the RealWorld/Rental ADVANTAGE software out to them, and proceeded to sell additional copies to other computer rental shops in the area. This was our first sale of software to another business of any type.

1991

A trailer rental company out of Tom's River NJ came to us by word-of-mouth requesting a copy of our software to use with his business. This became our first trailer rental customer and we subsequently released ADVANTAGE for sale to other businesses in the equipment rental industry.

1996

We were looking to develop a Windows version of our rental software. We decided to go with what is today known as Microsoft Dynamics - NAV and set out to enhance this award winning software to meet the unique needs of businesses that rent, sell and service equipment. Released with Microsoft Dynamics - NAV, our product became known as the RMI ADVANTAGE Solution. We continued to increase functionality to cater to businesses that not only provided rentals, but also offered sales, service, or parts along with other offerings. RMI had now fully transformed into a software provider rather than an equipment provider.

2000s

2002

Microsoft Corporation named RMI's ADVANTAGE Solution as its Industry Solution for the equipment rental, sales and service industry.

In this year RMI is reorganization into two distinct segments: Client Services and Product Development. Our Client Services team is able to focus on the immediate needs of customers including the likes of implementation, training, custom modifications, and on-going support. Our Product Development team focuses on the long-term needs of our clients through proactive system development.

2004

Microsoft names RMI ISV Partner of the Year. This award recognizes RMI as a partner that delivered exemplary solutions to their customers during the previous year. Additionally in 2004, RMI was awarded the Gold Certified Partner standing, which it still holds today. Microsoft Certified Partners, who meet the highest set of criteria, including advanced certification and a portfolio of real-world customer references, are identified as Gold Certified - the most skilled partners in specific solution areas.

2005

RMI is named to the Microsoft Business Solutions President's Club for the ninth consecutive year. This recognition honors Business Solutions reselling partners whose commitment to customers is reflected in their business performances and high level of sales achievement and customer satisfaction.
RMI has reaches 200 installations along with 3,000 concurrent users on the RMI ADVANTAGE Solution. Our clients range from mid-size to large corporations within the equipment rental, sales and service industry. We now license RMI ADVANTAGE version 4.0 and continue to enhance the product's functionality to provide the best possible solution to our customers.

2007

Microsoft names RMI ISV Partner of the Year for the second time. RMI has proven to be a Microsoft Partner capable of delivering exemplary solutions to their clients on a yearly basis.

RMI revolutionizes the industry with the release of ADVANTAGE Live, our premier rental, sales and service solution now available via the SaaS (Software as a Service) model. By offering this as an alternative to On-Premise purchases, RMI fulfills market demands to control IT costs with cutting edge business productivity tools; accessible anytime, anywhere.

In doing so, RMI is the first to release and market a Microsoft Dynamics NAV industry solution in the cloud environment in the United States.

2008

RMI celebrates our 25th year in business. Nearing 300 successful installations, RMI is proud to be serving the rental industry and continues to focus on improving the ADVANTAGE Solution to better meet the needs of our clients.

2009

ADVANTAGE 2009 is released, ushering in new era of employee productivity. Role Centers are "command centers" designed for specific job responsibilities, providing visibility and easy access to priority tasks.

ADVANTAGE earns Microsoft's Certified for Dynamics NAV 2009 accreditation, making RMI's solution the only Rental, Sales and Service application Certified for Dynamics NAV.

2010s

2010

RMI announces that we are "all-in" under the cloud. Cloud computing, with the many benefits and cost savings it delivers, is fast becoming the preferred way of doing business.

RMI releases its 10 year development plan, including quarterly updates and 18 month upgrades for all ADVANTAGE Cloud users. This schedule ensures that ADVANTAGE users will always have the benefit of the latest hardware and software technologies to best manage their business.

2011

ADVANTAGE goes Mobile. In 2011, RMI announced support for ADVANTAGE users accessing the solution via an iPad.

Later that year RMI releases Mobile users, enabling workers with select job functions to engage the ADVANTAGE system from anywhere via any web browser enabled device. With the introduction of mobile users, RMI released advanced barcode functionality streamlining warehouse and rental technicians' processes.

By the end of 2011, RMI simplified the user type selection process by rebranding the system options into 4 distinct user types: Information Workers, Office Workers, Full ERP Worker, Mobile LT (Lite) Workers.

2013

Celebrating 30 years in business! For over 3 decades, RMIs innovation in designing business systems and outstanding services culminates in another record year of new customers onto our Advantage Cloud solution.

Our clients gained:

  • Four(4) quarterly ADVANTAGE Improvements; including enhanced reporting and extending our already flexible billing models.
  • RMI increased the benefits included within the ADVANTAGE solution and reduced prices as economies of scale continued to prove that Cloud delivers a better ROI for our customers.

RMI earns awards and certifications in recognition of their dedication to deliverinng fully inclusive, world-class solutions:

2014 & Beyond

RMI ADVANTAGE is in use by over 6,000 worldwide users.

RMI has several exciting new releases planned for 2014 to drive profitability and growth in their clients businesses.

RMI continues to deliver on their 10-year release plan with quarterly updates and a full system upgrade for all cloud customers, without any additional fees.

Our success relies on the success of our clients. New and improved software functionality can and will translate directly into increased profit for our clients. Feedback from our clients coupled with improved industry practices allows us to enhance our system to make our solution more valuable to our existing clients while making it a more marketable product. A larger market share allows RMI to reinvest in our product and services that in turn, ensure our offerings are continually improving. In addition to continuous product and process improvement, RMI leverages partners such as Microsoft to support our clients. Combining the strength of Microsoft with the industry specific focus of RMI translates into a winning situation for our clients.
